Josie Bassett Cabin, Vernal, UT. The work on this building was undertaken in cooperation with the Intermountain Natural History Association. This cabin had been the home of a well known if not notorious cowgirl. It has fallen into disrepair and needed to be cleaned out, re-roofed, new walls constructed, and a foundation installed under the building. Located in Dinosaur National Monument and listed on the National Register, it was important to get the details right in this restoration. The roof was rebuilt but not straightened to retain the profile of the original cabin’s roof line. Walls were left somewhat irregular to preserve the feel and texture of the original structure although missing and seriously deteriorated logs were replaced and treated with borates. The cabin was leveled and walls tightened.
