Blacksmith Shop, La Veta, CO. This modest blacksmith cabin is one of several buildings at Fort Francisco Museum in La Veta, Colorado. The cabin, which dates to ca. 1855, was seriously deteriorated. Following a 2006 condition assessment, Heritage Preservation Resources, in conjunction with the Traditional Building Institute of Snow College, undertook the restoration of the building.
The building was brought into square, foundation piers were rebuilt, new wall logs were hewn and installed, chinking was repaired, and the roof was replaced. The building has been put back into use as a blacksmith shop.
