Johnson Cabin, Caldwell, ID. In 2011, the City of Caldwell, Idaho had a small grant with which to make repairs on one of the state’s oldest buildings. Located in the Van Slyke city park, Heritage Preservation Resources contracted by the city to replace deteriorated logs, patch the roof and re-daub the building. The sill logs had a series of impel rods placed in them to prevent decay, the foundation was underlain with galvanized metal to further retard deterioration and all new logs were treated with a borate solution to reduce decay in the future. Holes in the roof were re-shingled.
