Lewis and Clark State Historic Site, Hartford, IL. This Fort was built in 2002 to commemorate the start of Lewis and Clark’s journey up the Mississippi and into the West. The fort was build using construction techniques from the early 19th century without any modern methods that might have arrested the deterioration and decay. Heritage Preservation Resources prepared a written condition assessment of the fort and its buildings as well as conducting a one-day workshop for state employees, contractors, and members of the public. The recommended immediate repair needs, along with techniques to extend the useful life of the fort after the buildings are restored.
