The Herford Guard Station is associated with other USFS buildings that have been abandoned. This image was taken 2 years ago when the building was assessed for a Passport In time project for the Sawtooth National Forest. It was rough but salvageable. It is unknown what the heavy snows of 2016-2017 may have done to this cabin. Log structures can readily be salvages because the log members retain their shape and dimension even in a collapse. Repairs require heritage archaeology but the building can be rebuilt.
